Manoel Domingues Poças Junior founded this highly respected Port House in 1918. The company, initially a producer of brandy used in the production of port wine, however progressed to produce its own ports. It was not until 1960 that the first vintage was produced with the family’s trademark. Their expertise in the production of port is now world renowned.

The House still remains in the hands of the founding family, managed today by Manoel Joaquim Poças Pintao and, as with most Portuguese Houses, specialise in Colheitas - Vintage Tawny Ports.

Manoel Poças Pintao and his son and winemaker Jorge received the well deserved accolade of International Wine Challenge Fortified Winemaker of the Year in 2001. As well as this prestigious award Poças Pintao also won International Wine Challenge Fortified Wine Trophy for his Poças Vintage 1997. There is no doubt that this Port House is one of the best kept secrets of the Douro.

Cloudy Bay – Marlborough, New Zealand

No other estate causes so many problems to the independent wine merchant as this ultra popular Marlborough producer. As soon as the wines are released there is a mad frenzy akin to the Harrods’ sale! Founded in 1985 by David Honan, Cloudy Bay forms 140 hectares of vines at three sites. One surrounds the winery in the Wairau Valley at Rapaura; the others are at Renwick and in the southern foothills of the Brancott Valley. They also enjoy long-term contracts with five top growers. Named after the bay at the eastern extremity of the Wairau Valley, which itself was named by Captain Cook on his voyage to New Zealand in 1769, Cloudy Bay’s flagship wine is the Sauvignon Blanc, which has made the Marlborough region of the South Island one of the most famous wine producing regions of the world.

Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant, the 2007 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of a fresh summer fruit salsa – ripe peach, passionfruit, mango and juicy citrus – sprinkled with fresh fennel and a dash of Pastis. The palate is rich and succulent, with a zesty citrus and apple-sherbet acidity that leads to a long, lingering, and characteristically crisp finish.
£37.50
Te Koko 2004
Sauvignon Blanc – oak aged. An alluring and exotic mix of mango and pineapple infused with herbal notes of thyme and sage fades to traces of fresh ginger and smoky oak. Seamlessly integrated after three years in the cellar, the full-bodied palate shows vibrant citrus flavours layered over a mealy, pistachio nuttiness, deftly finished by the merest influence of oak.
£45.00
Chardonnay 2003
Aromas of poached pear and grapefruit are beautifully complemented by a savoury complexity reminiscent of roasted cashews and oatmeal. The combination of "hands-off" winemaking and vibrant Marlborough fruit delivers a rich, textural palate with concentrated citrus and fig flavours, seamlessly integrated oak, and a persistent finish.
£39.50
Gewurztraminer 2004
Like a Middle Eastern bazaar, the intoxicatingly perfumed 2005 Cloudy Bay Gewurztraminer oozes the musky scent of oriental spices entwined with orange blossom and Turkish delight. Tinged with cardamom, the wine's voluptuous palate has the vibrancy of ripe citrus fruits with a brulée like creaminess ... finishing just off-dry with great intensity and length.
£45.00
Red Wine

Pinot Noir 2004
Enticing aromas of ripe juicy cherries and dark fruitcake are enriched by the plush scent of new leather and hints of toasty oak. The palate is supple and fine with a delicious plummy fruit character layered over charry oak and delicate tannins.
